Best way to learn Arabic vocabulary

Increasing your Arabic vocabulary is one of the best ways to learn Arabic. The more Arabic vocabulary you memorize, the better your Arabic language is.

Do you have trouble remembering the Arabic words you study every day?

Have you tried to review them several times, only to find that you forgot the previous ones? When we start learning a language, especially a large language like Arabic, we can easily find ourselves overwhelmed by the sheer number of words. It is even more difficult for foreign learners, who do not live in an Arab country, and do not use Arabic every day. Thus, it is common to wonder how to learn the most words possible, in a short time.

Here are some strategies:

Learn the Root:

Try to learn topic-related words. Fortunately, Arabic is a root-based language, which means that words flow from each other. For example, words like male teacher ( Ù…ُدَرِّس ), female teacher ( Ù…ُدَرِّسَØ© ) and school ( Ù…َدْرَسَØ© ) all come from the same root to study ( دَرَسَ ). This pattern continues in even more words, like lesson (دَرْس), studies (دِرَاسَØ©), learner دَارِس), etc. In another example, words like book ( Ùƒِتاب ), writer ( كاتِب ) and library ( Ù…َÙƒْتَبَØ© ) all come from the same root, write ( Ùƒَتَبَ ).

Therefore, if you know the root of a group of words, you can easily guess the meaning of any new word with the same root. Understand context, learn new words in context, rather than memorizing meaningless independent words. This strategy will also help you learn how to use these words in sentences. For example, instead of just memorizing the word book ( Ùƒِتاب ), know how to use it in a sentence ( i.e. This is the student's book / هذا كتاب الطالب ) or ( My book is new / كتابي جديد) will allow you to remember your words in a useful way.

Practice:

Use new words in conversations with your teachers or friends. Unused objects that remain stored in the same place, for long periods of time, can be forgotten. That's why you should use new words as much as you can.
